Why Rainy Days Make Me Happy

Rainy days are messy, complicated, and inconvenient. Chaos. It's in the air, on the ground, it gets in your shoes and maybe you sit in it. It seeps in through your window sill and trickles into your ears and then your brain gets soggy. Then, in the spirit of avoiding doing anything beyond the necessary during rainy days, most people find themselves confined. Trapped. But its all an illusion, albeit a useful one. The illusion of entrapment prompts us to find alternative methods of time-utilization. In many cases we end up spending a little more time with family. Reading a good book. Finding solitude. Contemplating the mysteries of existence.

Sometimes we say "fuck my hair and makeup" or "a little water never hurt anyone" and we venture forth into the chaos and let the rain fall on our faces, and enjoy a connection between our lowly location in the dust and those high altitudes where nothing but beauty and various gaseous molecules float along.

A little rain can do you some good. Thoughts turn inward, and sometimes we find within ourselves things we don't notice in the bright light of the sun.Sometimes the rain trickles in and lights its own special light by which we can truly see ourselves and our motivations and desires. We can take a day to be still and enjoy just being who we are while we discover who that actually is. Because when the curtain goes down and we find ourselves unaffected by "the world" at large, cut off from the obnoxious presence of society, we can breathe a sigh of relief and just let go for a little while.

This is why I love rainy days. Not only is the earth reaching out with its pores to soak up the nourishing, cleansing liquid from the sky but it's inhabitants always convert to strange and different behaviors in the rainy weather. People try SO HARD not to get wet! And why??? You're not going to melt...

Rain makes me happy, but it makes some people sad. If we're following the previous line of thought, then perhaps those who are saddened by rain (which instinctively should be cause for celebration) have something unfinished, something that needs attention in their lives. What better time to confront it? Let the rain wash over your skin and let go! Embrace your inner child and dance in the rain. Be happy to be you because, after all, no one else can! :)
